Our family joke is that every Fall, through all the generations, the men in the family start to yearn for a new car. Not sure why but this makes the women sit back and shake their heads. To me, there is a very obvious reason for this need for change…..a new school bag, new pencils, a new lunch box and new jeans that appear in early September. Yep, the sound of “flack, flack” of the new jeans that start each new school year made a huge impression on us. This has always signaled a change. So when we got older, we just needed something new and impressive…..the sound of the engine, the hood closing and the smell of new leather……OMG!
Knowing this was inevitable but definitely not in the budget, Susan and I started to address this need for change by simply, sneaking away to some quiet getaway to talk about the past and the future. Over the years this activity became a tradition and with over 18 years behind us, we look forward to our escape each year. During this time, we celebrate the great things that have occurred including new jobs, new houses, and a new trailer. And we go over the hardships that may have fallen. Then, with a second glass of wine, we talk about the year ahead and what we expect to happen. This sets our focus for change, for expectations and what plans will be necessary. Try it, you will be amazed how well it works.
This year we escaped to the Olympic Peninsula, near Port Angeles. We celebrated our new, lovely Granddaughter, our Daughters and Husband’s new jobs, and our heading toward working for ourselves. We then set plans for expanding Melchert Road and what steps to take to better share our collection of friends, stories, places and things. Our new website is set. New woodcraft products are on store shelves, and more plans are in works. We hope you enjoy reading!
