About

You found us! Thanks.  Melchert Road is a site full of stories, content and products  focused on Airstream travels and northwest living.   We are Susan and David Reed, a couple from a small island in Washington State.  We found each other in college band, seems like only a few years back, and moved to the Northwest with dreams of living near the water.  We found our little island by luck and have forged a wonderful life together; building our own home, remodeling others, raising two wonderful, brilliant, adorable daughters into strong successful ladies, inspiring others and even learning to sail.  Now retired, we spend our time split between Airstream travels and island living.  Who knew, when we moved from sailboats to a “land yacht” that we would fall in love with everything Airstream!  We found other like-minded Airstream fanatics and have forged great friendships.  But as you see in the pages of this site, we sure can stumble upon crazy stories as we weave our way, towing our shiny trailer. Stories that are certainly worth sharing.  So read on dear followers and enjoy the road ahead!

Welcome! I’m usually the quiet one of our team although our family just might disagree. They lovingly call me “unfiltered”. I have a long list of likes and dislikes. On my like list is acoustic music, October, smell of the beach, quilts, lemon pie, first snowfall, peonies, anything hand-crafted. Dislikes?  Well, you will see them surface in later thoughts.

I have always had a fascination with building designs and gardens, collecting them in my mind. They come from childhood homes to interesting towns and buildings I find in our travels. When traveling, I’m always drawn to the architecture of a location before anything else. I plan to share my observations of these designs and favorite finds as Dave and I explore.

Greetings. I am the rambling voice of all things inspirational. I prefer to dream than do, which means I am the one to look for inspiration around me in every place, thing, sound, sight, whatever.  I also tend to dream about places to go, things to do, and, to Susan’s chagrin, ideas about repurposing things I find along the way.

Have you noticed some people prefer to think to themselves, perfect an idea before sharing, gather all information before commenting?  Well, I am the opposite.  I think out loud, share ideas that aren’t even 1/4 baked.  I have to force myself to stop and listen closely so I can gather all the information before commenting.  Not an easy chore for me.

My other specialty is, or are, people. I have collected their stories, studied their habits and, professionally, studied how teams work and how people relate to each other…..personal dynamics. In essence, I collect people and enjoy talking and hearing their stories. I guess I am the outgoing half of our great team.

Why is all this important? As you read in this blog, you will see the different voices of myself and the lovely Susan. We are the yin and the yang, the sun and the moon, the Fred and Ethyl, the M and…well, the other M. We have grown to balance each other and love seeking treasures that inspire and delight. With Susan’s keen eye for design and years of design training along with my quirky artistic views, you will gain an insight into unique places we visit and a true Northwest style.  Join us and ride along for the fun.
