The girls were little and engaged with sports, friends and activities that kept our house in chaos. Add to that an hour plus commute for me across a ferry, struggling to maintain a semblance of order was beyond difficult. Sound familiar? I sure you also experience this. But……
Not so fast…..there is a solution we developed to help keep our calendars in check, knowing where people are (or usually the case, should be). I took a trip to my favorite surplus store (Boeing Surplus) and came home with a big, wood-framed chalkboard that we prominently attached to the wall by our phone (back then, phone hung on a wall….go figure!). This new chalkboard was soon covered in schedule information, phone numbers and little-by-little, small art drawings and colorings. This soon became the neighborhood friend’s place to come and dibble with chalk, creating interesting designs. The information portion shrank as the girls got older and the artwork became a prominent feature of the chalkboard.
The board moved from house to house and now hangs in the gallery hallway by our back door. Everyone who comes over has to check out the chalkboard to see what has emerged this month or season and notes get written all over it. I try to keep it interesting and fresh with new inspired art taken from current activities and other inspirations. It is fun to come up with something new, to create with images and color….I kind of feel like a kid again….. Enjoy.
